Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Roland Dittmeyer has an academic background in Chemical Engineering. During his career at University, he held different positions at Erlangen-Nürnberg University and Karlsruhe University. Since 2009 he is Full Professor and Head of the Institute for Micro Process Engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which was established as a merger of Karlsruhe University and the Research Center Karlsruhe in 2009. Previously he was with DECHEMA e.V. in Frankfurt am Main for more than 10 years where was head of the research group Technical Chemistry and Member of the Board of Directors of the Karl-Winnacker-Institute. During his time at DECHEMA he also spent a sabbatical year in France at CPE Lyon where he contributed to a project with the French chemical industry. Over the years he has been interested in different research areas, namely catalytic reaction engineering, modelling in chemical reaction engineering, multifunctional reactors, catalysis in fuel cells, inorganic membranes for separation of gases and vapours, and micro process engineering. He was involved in a number of cooperative projects on membrane reactors together with well-known industry on the national and on the European level. The use of hydrogen-permeable membranes in catalytic reactors has been one of his key interests in research for many years. He authored or co-authored more than 60 scientific publications and holds 7 Patents. He has been co-Editor of the 5th edition of Wiley-VCH’s Handbook “Winnacker-Küchler, Chemische Technik, Prozesse und Produkte” (8 volumes) and has contributed book chapters on “Kinetics and Transport Processes” as well as “Catalytic Membrane Reactors” to the 2nd edition of Wiley-VCH’s “Handbook of Heterogeneous Catalysis” edited by G. Ertl, H. Knözinger, F. Schüth and J. Weitkamp. He is an appointed member of the working party on Industrial Reactions and vice chairman of the working party on micro process engineering at DECHEMA/ProcessNet.
